Former NC Governor's Education Technology Effort

According to this article, there seem to be efforts in our own state to improve the use of technology in education. Former North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue seems to have taken it upon herself to increase the amount of technology used in the state's classrooms.
Perdue is a former teacher herself. She obviously seems to value the importance of a good education and recognizes the need for technological advances to be present in the school system. Perdue was involved in the creation of North Carolina Virtual Public Schools during her time in office. She is now hoping to increase the work of her company, DigiLearn. While the article does not detail how she will attempt to add technology into our schools, her program seems quite hopeful as it received grants from the Carnegie Foundation and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. I will make sure to keep track of Perdue's efforts and update on this blog if I read more about it!

  1. Two of my three daughters have taken advantage of the NCVPS Program. My oldest daughter was able to take Calculus online because it was not offered in her school, and she needed this class to graduate. My youngest daughter is currently completing her foreign languages online because they do not have enough students in the school to justify adding a class. So, she needed one more year of Spanish to complete the Spanish requirements for the Language Magnet Program. And because she got into Chinese in middle school, she is currently continuing her Chinese studies online. I have been blessed with the Magnet program in the fact all three of my children are able to speak another language and considered fluent with at least one of the languages they have learned.

My oldest daughter - fluent in Spanish, speaks French but is not considered fluent and knows the basic of Mandarin Chinese.
My middle daughter - considered fluent in Spanish and French.
My youngest daughter - speaks Spanish and French, but her main focus is on Mandarin Chinese. She fell in love with Mandarin Chinese the first time her teacher spoke to her.

Now, that 2 of my children are in college and working, they realize how much it helps to be able to speak another language. They realize it is beneficial when applying for jobs, and they have continued to speak the languages in order not to forget what they have learned. They are even trying to get me to focus more on learning another language.
